Firebase launches Cursor plugin to give AI agents native backend skills

· Updated

Firebase released an official plugin for the Cursor IDE, integrating 11 specialized Agent Skills and a dedicated MCP server. Available through the Cursor Marketplace, the plugin requires zero configuration to provide the AI agent with structured context for services like Auth, App Hosting, and Genkit for Node.js and Dart.

Standard AI models often struggle with outdated documentation or deprecated SDK patterns when generating logic. By packaging these capabilities as Agent Skills, Firebase ensures the agent operates with precision within its reasoning loop. This moves the platform from an external dependency to a first-class participant in the agentic coding workflow.

You can now use the Cursor agent to autonomously prototype and deploy applications using Firebase AI Logic and Gemini. The plugin is free and open-source, allowing you to verify the underlying skill definitions. To get started, search for the official extension in the marketplace and add it to your environment.
