Cursor Can Now Build Figma Components Using Your Design System
· Updated
Cursor can now create and modify Figma components directly on the canvas via Figma's new use_figma MCP tool, now in open beta. Coding agents work within your team's actual design system, guided by markdown skills that encode your conventions.
use_figma MCP tool, open beta since March 24, 2026. Claude Code, Codex, and Copilot in VS Code also support it. Unlike generate_figma_design, which converts existing HTML to Figma layers, use_figma generates and modifies assets tied to your design system — components, variables, and auto layout. The missing piece until now was context. AI agents lacked access to a team's design decisions, so their output felt generic. Skills — markdown files anyone can author, no plugin required — encode the steps and conventions agents follow. Nine launched today, including /figma-generate-library and /apply-design-system. Agents also self-correct via screenshot loops that detect and fix drift after each pass.
This is most useful when your design system is already well-defined — the structure you've built in components and variables is exactly what skills encode. The beta is currently free.
