Claude Sonnet 4.6, Anthropic's new mid-tier model, upgrades coding, computer use, long-context reasoning, and agent planning at the same price as Sonnet 4.5 ($3/$15 per million tokens). In Claude Code testing, users preferred it over Sonnet 4.5 70% of the time - reporting fewer hallucinations, better instruction following, and less code duplication. Users even preferred it to Opus 4.5, November's frontier model, 59% of the time.
Computer use sees the biggest jump: OSWorld benchmarks show steady improvement across sixteen months, with users reporting human-level performance on multi-step web forms and complex spreadsheets. Prompt injection resistance now matches Opus 4.6.
Available via claude-sonnet-4-6 on the API. The free tier now runs Sonnet 4.6 by default and includes file creation, connectors, skills, and compaction.
