Anthropic Expands Claude Computer Use to Windows for Legacy App Automation

· Updated

Anthropic expanded its Computer Use capability to the Windows operating system, allowing Claude to interact with the desktop environment natively. The model processes screenshots to understand the interface, then executes mouse movements, clicks, and keyboard inputs. This creates a loop where the AI acts within any software.

This expansion addresses the challenge of legacy software within Enterprise AI workflows. Many critical business processes rely on older Windows applications that lack modern API support or Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers. By operating through the user interface, Claude can automate tasks across these systems without custom integrations.

You can use this feature to build agents that perform cross-application workflows, such as moving data between spreadsheets and old databases. It is accessible via the Claude desktop app and the API. Users must grant explicit permissions for the model to take control of the cursor and keyboard.

Computer Use is now available on Windows! This gives Claude on Windows the ability to control your keyboard and mouse. It's really effective at letting Claude handle legacy apps.
