Google AI Studio Ships Workspace Connectors to Build Functional Apps

Google has shipped native connectors for Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Sheets inside Google AI Studio. This update allows the platform's build mode to create applications that manage live document data. It uses the same underlying coding agent that powers Antigravity to handle technical implementation.

This release moves the platform beyond prototyping into functional tool creation. By removing manual API configuration, Google is streamlining the vibe coding (developing software through natural language intuition) workflow. This follows a similar move by Lovable, which recently added its own set of Google service connectors.

Users can now add testers directly within the interface to validate Workspace-connected tools. This allows for immediate feedback and iteration on app functionality without navigating to external sites. Full public sharing of these applications is expected to launch soon.

Still wondering? A few quick answers below.

Google AI Studio Build Mode is an environment where users can create functional applications using natural language prompts. It uses an underlying coding agent to handle technical implementation, allowing for a vibe coding workflow where the AI generates and iterates on code based on user descriptions.

The platform now supports native connectors for Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Sheets. These integrations allow built applications to directly pull and manage data from a user's Workspace document ecosystem without requiring manual API configuration or navigating to external sites for setup.

Currently, users can add specific testers directly within the Google AI Studio interface to validate and use their applications. While access is currently limited to these designated testers, Google has confirmed that full public sharing capabilities for these apps will be available soon.
