Runway Launches Custom Voice Design and Cloning for Runway Characters

· Updated

Runway added custom voice capabilities to its Characters platform, allowing users to generate unique voices from text prompts or clone them from audio samples. This update enables developers and brands to create AI agents with distinct, proprietary vocal identities rather than relying on a library of presets.

Runway, an AI creative platform for video generation, launched custom voices for Runway Characters. Users can now design entirely new voices by describing characteristics like tone and accent in a text prompt or by cloning a voice from an existing recording.

Vocal identity is a critical component of brand consistency for AI agents. By moving beyond a fixed library of presets, organizations can now ensure their digital characters maintain a unique, branded sound that aligns with their specific identity or replicates a specific person's voice.

You can access these features through the web app or the Runway API using the voices.create endpoint (a dedicated access point for developers). Voice design requires a prompt of at least 20 characters using models like eleven_ttv_v3, while cloning requires an audio sample between 10 seconds and 5 minutes long.
