Three million people are now using Codex weekly - up from two million a little under a month ago. Incredible to see the growth. Thank you to all of you and to the ecosystem we’re part of. To celebrate, we’re resetting rate limits so you can keep building, and we’ll reset them every additional 1M users until we reach 10M, so we can keep celebrating along the way. Enjoy and thank you!
OpenAI Resets Codex Rate Limits to Celebrate Three Million Weekly Users
· Updated
OpenAI announced that Codex has reached three million weekly active users, a 50% increase from the two million reported less than a month ago. To mark the milestone, the team is resetting all user rate limits—the usage quotas that restrict how much compute a developer can consume.
This growth highlights the rapid shift toward agentic coding as a standard developer workflow. Because agentic loops require significantly more inference-time compute (the processing power used to run a model) than standard chat, restrictive limits have been a major bottleneck for power users trying to ship production code.
You can immediately resume stalled development tasks or run more intensive agentic sessions without waiting for your weekly quota to refresh. OpenAI committed to resetting these limits at every million-user interval until the platform hits ten million users, effectively subsidizing more compute for the ecosystem as it scales.
