We’re launching Codex for Open Source to support the contributors who keep open-source software running. Maintainers can use Codex to review code, understand large codebases, and strengthen security coverage without taking on even more invisible work. https://t.co/ulWYlf7zhz https://t.co/4WexIEcNms
OpenAI Launches Codex Support Program for Open Source Maintainers
· Updated
OpenAI launched Codex for Open Source, a support program for open-source maintainers. Selected maintainers receive six months of ChatGPT Pro (which includes Codex, OpenAI's coding agent), API credits through the $1M Codex Open Source Fund for pull request workflows and maintainer automation, and conditional access to Codex Security for deeper security coverage. Codex Security access is reviewed case-by-case.
Open-source maintainers absorb enormous invisible work — triaging issues, reviewing PRs, and patching vulnerabilities — often without compensation. This program puts Codex directly in the hands of developers who build infrastructure others depend on, recognizing that sustaining the OSS ecosystem requires tooling support, not just funding.
If you're a core maintainer or run a widely-used public project, apply at the Codex for Open Source program page. Projects that don't strictly fit the criteria can still apply and explain their role in the ecosystem.
