Lovable Adds Skills to Enable Modular and Reusable AI App Building
Lovable, an AI app builder that generates full-stack web applications from natural language descriptions, launched a new feature called skills. These are modular, reusable capabilities — the knowledge layer specifying what an agent can do — that dictate how the AI handles specific tasks. Users create them by asking the AI to "make a skill."
This update adopts the Google's Agent Skill library pattern, moving away from monolithic system prompts toward specialized knowledge. By modularizing instructions, Lovable reduces context bloat and improves reliability. It mirrors JetBrains' modular agent instructions to ensure AI agents perform complex tasks with higher precision and consistency.
You can now explicitly invoke specific logic using a / command or let the system apply skills automatically when relevant. Lovable has included five built-in skills to demonstrate the feature. These capabilities are available now for all users building and iterating on full-stack projects within the Lovable environment.

Skills are modular and reusable capabilities that define how the Lovable AI agent performs specific tasks or handles logic within a web application. They act as a specialized knowledge layer, allowing the AI to understand and execute complex instructions consistently across different parts of a project without requiring the user to repeat detailed prompts.
You can create a new skill by simply asking the Lovable AI assistant to make one using natural language instructions. Once a skill is created, it is stored within the platform where you can edit and manage it through the settings menu. This allows you to teach the AI custom behaviors that fit your specific workflow.
There are two ways to use skills during the development process. You can manually call on a specific skill by typing a forward slash followed by the skill name in the chat interface. Alternatively, Lovable is designed to identify when a stored skill is relevant to your current request and apply it to the project automatically.
Yes, Lovable has launched the feature with five built-in skills that users can try immediately. These initial skills serve as examples of how modular capabilities can be used to streamline the app-building process, providing a foundation for users to explore before they begin creating their own custom skills through natural language prompts.
The skills feature is available to all Lovable users. Whether you are building your first application or iterating on an existing project, you can access and create skills from the settings panel within the Lovable environment. There is no additional subscription required to access this new capability.
